Description
Date: 17th October 2026
Day: Saturday
Time: 9.30am to 5.00pm
Please Note: This is a Level 2 workshop. By booking this workshop you are agreeing that your sewing skills and experience match the criteria below. This is to avoid personal frustration and to ensure that everyone has a chance to go home with a finished bag.
Level 2
Suitable for those who can confidently use a sewing machine, but have little or no experience of bagmaking
You need to be able to do the following –
- Confidently use a sewing machine to sew straight lines
- Follow written instructions to cut out pattern pieces accurately and add interfacing in own time (Initial guidance can be given in the shop)
- Sew accurate seam allowances
- Topstitch with a given seam allowance
- Follow instructions given by workshop tutor
- Work at a consistent pace to complete tasks
- Use a zipper foot once given initial guidance and instruction
- Change stitch, needle position and stitch length after initial instruction
- Use a ruler to measure accurately under guidance
- Cope with a busy day of sewing
Some preparation will be required before the class ie: cutting out your pieces and fusing interfacing – advice can be given for this in the shop.
During this one day workshop you will make a modified version of the Range Backpack from Noodlehead Patterns.
- Perfect size for everyday essentials, a work bag or a day trip (even a night away if you pack light!)
- External zip pocket (modified from original pattern)
- Internal Slip pocket
- Foldover top design
- Adjustable webbing straps
- Webbing closure
- Top Handle
Backpacks will need to be made using quilting weight cotton or similar, as anything heavier will be too thick for the sewing school machines to handle.
Dimensions
Approximate finished dimensions:
Closed – 27cm Width x 38cm Height x 10cm Depth (10.5″ Width x 15″ Height x 4″ Depth)
This will be a busy day of sewing so please be prepared to be tired but happy at the end of it!
The pattern is included in the workshop price but you will need to provide your own materials for this project, all available to purchase from Nimble Thimbles.
Sewing machines are provided in the sewing school but you will need to bring your own equipment with you.
Once you have booked and closer to the date, you will be emailed a list of materials & equipment needed for this project.
