Description

Date: 15th June, 20th July & 17th August 2024
Day: Saturday
Time: 10.00am to 2.00pm

During this 3 half-day dressmaking course you will make a skirt. The classes are run over the course of three months to give you time in-between to digest the information and maybe repeat what you’ve learnt at home.

The pattern we use for this course is Butterick 6746. This skirt has four darts and a back zip with a choice of waistbands. It’s an ideal pattern to start with, without being too simple. Learn a host of skills throughout the course whilst making a successful skirt.

You will be shown how to choose a pattern using the pattern books, the difference between threads, zips and fabrics before the class even starts.

On the course you will learn how to read dressmaking patterns, including all the symbols and their meanings. How to transfer pattern markings and how to sew successful darts.  How to use the sewing machine and how to finish your seams either using the overlocker or sewing machine. How to sew a concealed zip, how to finish the top of the skirt with either a waistband or waist facing & a little about interfacings & finally how to hem the skirt.
You will also learn how to fit the skirt to your figure too and how to change the pattern accordingly.
Leave with lots of skills and knowledge that you can apply to all your future dressmaking projects.

You will need to provide your own materials for this project, all available to purchase from Nimble Thimbles. Sewing machines are provided in the sewing school but you will need to bring your own equipment with you.
Once you have booked you will be emailed a list of materials & equipment needed for this project.
